I’m not sure where blog posts go, since I didn’t create a link (I don’t think), but I wanted to share a concept that I spoke about during the various conferences: Accountability. Sounds feasible for Accounting, doesn’t it! One big reason for my team’s success last year, despite my being a mostly absentee coach, was their accountability to each other. Their district score was a respectable 777, but I told them after looking at state-wide scores (see Handouts for that form), that that score would not get them to State. They bought in and started taking Regional tests, (sometimes two a day!) and recording their scores on a practice test score grid (see Handouts for their form from last year, easy to create as a table or spreadsheet). Being accountable to themselves and to each other in a visible way was huge! Everyone could tell who was working and how they were improving. Their score improved to an impressive 1110 at Regional, which was high enough to advance to State as the wildcard team. Keeping accountable is a good practice, both in Accounting UIL preparation, and in life! Blessings to you all!
